Club members Dave and Heidi Etherington held a Samurai Shiatsu class on day two of the annual summer course. The class offered a range of Japanese themed activities for juniors with the aim of promoting well-being and self-confidence. The class was open to all children, not just those who are members of the club, with the aim of engaging the young in sport and getting them interacting with the wider community. Special Thanks to Binks Developments for use of their facilities.
Congratulations to Sam Griffith-Jones, Paul Sharp, Greg Lambert, Freddie Smith, Gary Blakeley and Paul Rowlandson who all successfully progressed to the next belt. The grading itself took two hours and every student was thoroughly put through their paces by the assessment panel. It’s a proud day for the students and their instructors.

In aid of the Special Care Baby Unit, Calderdale Royal Hospital
On Saturday 20th October 2012, members of Mirfield Martial Arts Club notched up 10,000 throws in order to raise money for essential, life saving equipment for the Special Care Baby Unit of Calderdale Royal Hospital.
“any parent whose baby needs intensive care knows what an anxious and exhausting time it is and also how hard the SCBU team work in providing the essential around the clock care. Melanie and I both wanted to give something back for the care Ethan received when he was born six weeks premature; and what better way than by roping in your friends to share in the effort and pain”, Steve Moore, Instructor MMAC
“Many thanks to everyone who sponsored us. The support has been astonishing.”
With the Mega-throw and Auction combined, the event has raised over £2,500 so far and there are still pledges to collect.
